Texans loves literary travel! Last November I spoke about Novel Destinations at the Texas Book Festival in Austin, and I’ll soon be headed back to the great Lone Star State. I’ll be speaking at the Dallas Museum of Art on Tuesday, June 2nd, at 7:30 p.m. as part of their Arts & Letters Live series. Tickets cost $25 for museum members and National Geographic Society members, $30 for non-members.
During a 35-40 minute presentation I’ll show images of author houses on both sides of the Atlantic, talk about some of my own adventures, suggest places to drink, dine and doze, and offer up interesting literary tidbits. At what Parisian cafe did Voltaire indulge his 40-cup-a-day coffee habit? What scribe claimed chocolate cake as his favorite food? What famous designer had a hand in creating Mark Twain’s mansion in Hartford, Connecticut?
I’ll share the answers to these questions and much, much more. Send me a note at email@example.com if you plan to attend the event. I’d love to say hello and hear your literary travel stories. –Shannon McKenna Schmidt
