CRAFT: Authors in Conversation with Denise Kiernan, October 2020
Shannon joined Denise Kiernan, the author of The Girls of Atomic City, The Last Castle, and We Gather Together, on October 21, 2020, for some armchair adventuring and travel talk. During the chat, which was part of Denise’s weekly web series, CRAFT: Authors in Conversation, we discussed writing while on the road, the most atmospheric literary locale, selling nearly all of your belongings to travel full-time, and much more, including the subject of my next book (hint: it features a famous historical figure and an incredible journey). The conversation is archived and can be seen here.
A Conversation with Denise Kiernan via Magic City Books, November 2020
Shannon met up with Denise on her virtual tour for her new book, We Gather Together, to interview her during a conversation hosted by Magic City Books in Tulsa, Oklahoma, on November 18, 2020. We discussed the inspiration for We Gather Together, which unfolds the intriguing story behind the creation of Thanksgiving as a national holiday in the U.S., the fascinating and accomplished woman largely responsible for the holiday’s formalization, why gratitude is good for physical and mental health, and what Denise uncovered during the research process that surprised her. Frommers’ Travel Show
Shannon talked literary travel with Pauline Frommer and Jason Cochran, editor-in-chief of Frommers.com, on their radio show – peeking through William Wordsworth’s windows in England’s Lake District and more. (July 22, 2017 episode / 20:07).

Hi Gary,
Yes, we definitely include Faulkner’s wonderful estate Rowan Oak in our section on Southern writers. You’ve given me the idea that perhaps we should post an index to the book on the website somewhere. It’s so great to (virtually) meet another fellow literary traveler. There are just so many wonderful literary sites to see that it can really become a lifelong obsession trying to visit as many of them as possible! Hopefully our book will give you a few ideas for new ones to put on your list…happy travels!
