According to NationalParksTraveler.com, the Longfellow National Historic Site in Cambridge, Massachusetts, has a new name — one of which the poet would no doubt approve. The storied yellow brick mansion is now the Longfellow House-Washington’s Headquarters National Historic Site.

Before Longfellow and his wife, Fanny, took up residence there, the house served as the headquarters of General George Washington during the Siege of Boston in 1775. When strangers knocked, asking to see the historic Revolutionary War site, Longfellow graciously showed them around.

Reading Room, Thomas Jefferson Building, Library of Congress. #washingtondc 📚 The Library of Congress—established on April 24, 1800—houses an astounding 167 million items in three buildings on Capitol Hill. The dazzling, octagon-shaped Reading Room is a sight to behold. Rising several stories high, it’s gorgeously decorated with golden-color marble columns and statues of writers, artists, and thinkers like Michelangelo and Shakespeare, and is crowned with a Renaissance-style dome. All of which is surround for the plethora of reading material on its shelves. 📚 If you’re in the neighborhood, it’s well worth the time to take a free, docent-led tour of the Thomas Jefferson Building for insights on the library’s creation and collection, as well as its impressive architecture. 📚 #bookloversparadise @librarycongress #libraryofcongress #literarytravel #knowledgeispower #books #library #librarylove
